From the moment a person's breast cancer diagnosis is confirmed, she or he is considered a survivor. Race day is an opportunity for us to recognize our survivors for their bravery and show them how much they are loved, cherished, and respected. The race is more than just a 5k run/walk. It is a day for us to honor and celebrate breast cancer survivors and remember those we have lost to the disease.
At the Susan G. Komen Orange County Race for the Cure®, you'll find an incredible community of survivors and co-survivors gathering to celebrate and support one another in genuine camaraderie. It is their inspiring spirit that energizes us to continue in the fight to end breast cancer forever.
*Those who wish
to be recognized as a survivor have the option to note this during the time of
registration and will receive a special pink survivor T-shirt, hat, and
goodie bag in addition to the Race T-shirt. Celebrate your survivorship on Race Day and be
amongst the beautiful sea of pink!
Breast Cancer Survivor Pavilion and Complimentary Continental Breakfast
The complimentary breakfast is served from 6:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. and held at
the Survivor Pavilion located in the Expo area. The breakfast is open to all
breast cancer survivors and one guest due to limited space. Here, you will receive your strand of pink beads—one for each year of
survivorship. The Survivor Pavilion will open from 6:30 a.m - 11:00 a.m.
Breast Cancer Survivor Parade
The survivor parade begins promptly at 8:45 a.m. starting at the Survivor Pavilion leading to the back steps on the Expo side of the Pacific Life Building for the Breast Cancer Survivor Tribute. If you wish to be part of the parade, line up at the Survivor by 8:30 a.m. From there, all survivors will join together to walk to the steps of the Pacific Life Insurance Building for the Survivor Tribute.
Breast Cancer Survivor Tribute
The Survivor Tribute is one of the main highlights of the Komen Orange County Race for the Cure where we honor and celebrate all of our Survivors and recognize their courage and grace. Your presence gives strength and hope to other Survivors and provides inspiration to all Race attendees to understand the impact of breast cancer and how important it is to finding a cure. The tribute remembers those who we've lost to this disease and celebrates YOU, our amazingly strong, and incredible survivors.
As a tribute to survivors and those lost to the disease, “In memory of” and “In Celebration of" back signs will be available at the Survivor Pavilion and just outside the registration area on Santa Cruz.
