About Susan G. Komen® Orange County
The Susan G. Komen Orange County is one of 122 Komen Affiliates nationwide. Our goal is to raise public awareness, provide education about breast health and breast cancer, increase screening and early detection and connect local people to the resources they need for dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis. The Komen Orange County Affiliate provides a variety of education and community outreach programs to help achieve these goals including Speakers Bureaus, Health Fairs, Resource Centers and a Hat & Wig Salon.
Each year the Affiliate awards funds to local nonprofit, community-based organizations to implement innovative, culturally appropriate, and comprehensive breast health initiatives and programs throughout Orange County. Each of these organizations play a critical role in advancing the Komen mission. In 2015, more than $900,000 was awarded in community grants to organizations to support local breast health education, screening, and treatment/support programs.
Another grants program, the Komen Orange County Fund for Breast Health Care, a vital safety-net program works in collaboration with local community clinics and hospitals to cover the cost of diagnostic breast health services for underserved and uninsured women who are not eligible for other state or federal programs. In 2015, the Affiliate awarded $226,390 in grant funds to cover the cost of diagnostic procedures, such as diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds, and biopsies for women in need.
